Last week, we talked about the importance of sports and why girls should play it. We now know that sports have numerous benefits not only on physical health, but mental health as well. It improves your body and mind functions. This week, we are going to talk about how to get started. It's not easy to make an effort and be actively involved in sports activities.
Sports nourishes you physical, mental and spiritual health. Just imagine the feel of fresh air on your face when you are running, the power when you jump and the ecstasy when you achieve your goal. Mostly schools in the kingdom don't have special P.E classes, especially government school, but they do have open air grounds. It can be the place for you. You can always have a race with your friends, bring a rope to school and have a skipping competition for a start.
Those girls who don't like sports, find it boring and tough. You should always try seeking the sport that suits you. If you are not good at basketball doesn't mean you can't race as well. All you have to do is try!
Here are few tips on how to get started at sports. It would not only refresh you mind and body, but also introduces adventure in your life.
Try different sports first before you say “No” to sports. There is a sport there for everyone, you just have to look and try your best.
Tell yourself that from today onwards, you will try playing something that involves physical activity.
During recess at school time, go out in the ground take the heat and perspire. As they saying goes, genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Make a serious effort. You need to sweat to start something.
Everything is more fun with a friend. Ask a friend to play with you, and you both and can motivate and even compete with each other. Partner is always better than being alone.
Ask your P.E teacher about some regular warm-up exercise before you get started. Talk about sports to learn about its rules.
Talk to your parents about your interest and ask them to help you find classes and local programs that you and your friends can do together.
It is often neglected, but outfit matters. Ask about work-out clothes. You won't be comfortable playing basketball in your skirts. A pair of sneakers, head band and comfortable trousers would do wonders in enhancing your confidence and self-esteem.
Learn to keep trying and never give up. If you are not better in grade 2, you will be when you are in grade 6 – only of you keep trying.
Learn to accept defeat. You just can't blame anyone if you lose, just remind yourself that more effort is required.
During weekends, have a match of Badminton with your parents at the park or beach, have a walk and talk about stuff.
