NAJRAN/JAZAN — Two people were killed and eight were injured in shell attacks by the Houthi militias in Najran and Jazan on Monday.
The border villages in Al-Harath region of Al-Khoba sector in Jazan province came under shell attacks from across the border, in which one Saudi citizen was killed and four others were injured. The injured included one Saudi and three expatriates who were transferred to hospital.
Yahya Al-Qahtani, spokesman of the Civil Defense Directorate in Jazan region, said that the Civil Defense teams received information at around 10.40 a.m. about shells hitting residential districts of the border villages.
In the Najran shelling, a Pakistani national was killed and four others, including a Saudi girl and three expatriates, were injured, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Civil Defense spokesman in Najran region said a school and a nearby residence came under attack at around 7.30 a.m. and the shells were fired from across the border.
All the injured were taken to hospital.
The injured expatriates belonged to different nationalities. All precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of people, the spokesman said.
At least 10 people were killed and several others injured in shell attacks by Houthi rebels in Najran and Jazan last week.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia announced that a strike force has arrived on the border with Yemen, as the operation to quell Houthi militias in the country continues, Al Arabiya News said quoting officials.
The force is distinguished by the variety of weapons it possesses and the large number of special forces and paratroopers.
The Saudi-led coalition which has been bombing the Houthis in Yemen since March 26 said on Thursday that the Iranian-backed rebels had crossed a “red line” with their deadly cross-border fire.
