Arts society celebrates Saudi Theater Day By Matooq Al-Shareef JEDDAH – The Culture and Arts Society's branch here will mark the Saudi Theater Day on Tuesday. The celebration will include honoring the members of the theater's committee for their efforts as well as 13 domestic and foreign participants. Following his return to Kuwait from Makkah, he described this year's Haj season as successful. Al-Qarawi said the expansion of the holy sites has positively contributed on facilitating the process of performing Haj. – SPA SR58m for Ahsa drinking water projects By Abdulhadi Ismaeel AHSA – Authorities in the Eastern Province are implementing a SR58 million potable water project in Ahsa. The plan includes digging wells in each of Rou, Al-Tarf, Al-Miqdam, Al-Qarah, Al-Kolabiyah, Al-Shobah, Al-Sabat, and Al-Omran villages. This is in addition to founding water house networks in eastern villages, maintaining main water pipelines, and extending water pipelines in a number of villages. – Okaz/SG New terminals at Jeddah airport By Abdulaziz Ghazzawi JEDDAH – As part of the final stage of the Haj Terminal development project, demolition of seven old terminals at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah will begin in January. Sources expect the new terminals to be operational by next September to receive those coming to perform Umra in Ramadan. The new terminals will make it possible to receive 3,800 pilgrims per hour in 2009. – Okaz/SG Tabuk Emir receives education officials Tabuk – Prince Fahd Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Tabuk Region, on Sunday received Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Luhaidan, Director General of Education and Dr. Muhammad Saeed Al-Qahtani, Director General of Girls' Education in the region. During the meeting, they discussed a number of issues related to the educational development in the region. – SPA Saleh Al-Obaid in Tunisia TUNIS – Minister of Education Dr. Abdullah Bin Saleh Al-Obaid arrived in Tunisia Sunday at the invitation of his Tunisian counterpart Hatim Bin Salem. During his visit, Dr. Saleh will hold talks with the Tunisian minister on ways of supporting the bilateral cooperation in the field of education between the two countries. He will also visit some Tunisian educational institutions. The Saudi minister will also head the Kingdom's delegation to the 19th session of the general conference of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science, opening in the Tunisian capital on Thursday. – SPA University of Karachi admissions open By Amber Shahid JEDDAH – University of Karachi (UoK) has opened admissions for private study in bachelors and masters of arts and commerce enabling overseas Pakistanis to earn degrees while staying in the Kingdom. The fee is $435 for the first year ($310 UoK examination fee + $125 registration fee for the first time) plus a SR200 invigilation fee to be paid to the Pakistan International School Jeddah (PISJ). Drafts can be made from Tahweel Al-Rajhi and submitted at PISJ. The last date for filing forms is Jan 5. Results of examinations held in the summer of 2008 are now also available and can be collected by students, said Raja Iqbal, in charge of federal board and university related examinations. “Last year 280 students sat examinations in Jeddah,” he added.
