RIYADH — The Customs Department at the Al-Batha border post foiled two separate attempts to smuggle 23,400 bottles of liquor into the country. They were hidden in two consignments that arrived at the department. The director of Al-Batha Customs Department Abdulrahman Al-Muhanna said the first consignment was hidden among fruit baskets on a truck. During usual inspection procedures 17,400 liquor bottles were found. Al-Muhanna said the second attempt was foiled when officers investigated another truck that was carrying a consignment of bags of cement. Six thousand bottles of liquor were found hidden in the vehicle.
