ISTANBUL — Top-seeded Roger Federer overcame some sloppy serving to beat unseeded Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain 7-6 (3), 6-7 (5), 6-3 and reach the Istanbul Open semifinals Friday. Federer, who dropped his serve twice, missed seven chances to break Gimeno-Traver for a second time in the second set. But the Swiss star saved four breaks points on his opening service game of the deciding set. The 17-time Grand Slam champion next faces eighth-seeded Diego Schwartzman of Argentina, who beat fourth-seeded Santiago Giraldo of Colombia 0-6, 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, second-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria advanced to the semis with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Croatia's Ivan Dodig, and will next play third-seeded Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas, who beat Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 7-5, 6-3. On Thursday, Ivan Dodig of Bosnia-Herzegovina defeated Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 5-7, 7-6 (1), 6-4 to make the quarterfinals. Rain ruins play in Munich The quarterfinals of the BMW Open were washed out by rain Friday and rescheduled for Saturday. The quarterfinals, including top-seeded Andy Murray's match against Lukas Rosol, will be in the morning, with the semifinals to follow in the afternoon. The organizers waited for several hours for the rain to stop, and eventually gave up. All-Czech final in Prague In Prague, top-seeded Karolina Pliskova produced an ace on her first match point Friday and advanced to the Prague Open final by beating Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium 6-4, 7-5. It was one of 11 aces for the hard-hitting, 14th-ranked Czech. Pliskova will face qualifier Lucie Hradecka in an all-Czech final. Hradecka beat another Czech, unseeded Katerina Siniakova, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Pliskova failed to serve out the match at 5-4 but Wickmayer double-faulted to drop her serve in the following game. In her third final of the year, Pliskova will seek her first title of 2014, and fourth overall. Hradecka converted her first match-point with a service winner to advance to her seventh career final. She has never won a tournament. The 18-year-old Siniakova was a set down and trailed 4-2 when she came back, winning four straight games and taking the second set on her fifth set point when Hradecka double-faulted. Kyrgios in first semis In Estoril, Australia's Nick Kyrgios powered into his first ATP semifinal Friday, beating Dutchman Robin Haase 6-3, 6-4 at the Estoril Open. The seventh-seeded Kyrgios, ranked 46th and playing only his second event after returning from six weeks to rest an ankle injury, will next play Pablo Carreno Busta for a spot in the Sunday title match. The clay-courting Spaniard put out Luxembourg's eighth seed Gilles Muller 6-2, 6-4 in his quarterfinal.
