MUNICH — Roberto Bautista Agut, David Goffin and Philipp Kohlschreiber, the three seeded players in action Wednesday, all advanced to the quarterfinals of the BMW Open clay-court tournament.
Third-seeded Bautista Agut breezed past qualifier Radek Stepanek 6-0, 6-3 and No. 5 Kohlschreiber dispatched wild card entry Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-4.
Fourth-seeded Goffin needed three sets to get past Simone Bolelli 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-1.
Victor Estrella Burgos overcame Janko Tipsarevic 6-4, 6-7 (1), 7-5. In a first-round match, Pablo Andujar beat Joao Souza 6-4, 6-4.
Pliskova thru
In Prague, top-seeded Karolina Pliskova rallied from a set down to make the Prague Open quarterfinals, beating Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1) Wednesday.
Pliskova will next a fellow Czech, wild-card entry and 103rd-ranked Denisa Allertova, who upset fifth-seeded Alize Cornet 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Second-seeded Lucie Safarova was eliminated in the first round after losing to Tereza Smitkova 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in an all-Czech match.
Also, Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium advanced with a 7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-5 victory over Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia and will play a quarterfinal against qualifier Danka Kovinic of Montenegro, who beat Zhang Shuai of China 6-1, 6-4.
Katerina Siniakova defeated Polona Herzog of Slovenia 6-1, 6-4 to meet either another Czech, third-seeded Barbora Strycova, or Russia's Elena Vesnina in the quarterfinals.
Wild card Klara Koukalova was the fourth Czech to reach the quarterfinals, and Czech qualifier Lucie Hradecka won her first-round match.
Mladenovic beats Muguruza
In Morocco, Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic upset top-seeded Garbine Muguruza of Spain 7-6- (4), 7-6 (6) to reach the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix SAR Wednesday, while second-seeded Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland reached the last eight with a hard-fought 7-6 (3), 6-3 win against Tatjana Maria.
Bacsinszky next faces seventh-seeded Slovakian, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. Third-seeded Flavia Pennetta needed well over two hours to beat 145th-ranked German Laura Siegemund 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Pennetta next faces Hungarian Timea Babos, who beat Brazilian qualifier Teliana Pereira 6-0, 6-7 (5), 6-4.
Fourth-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine also advanced by beating American player Christina McHale 7-5, 6-3.
In the other second-round matches, Arruabarrena downed No. 8 Monica Puig of Puerto Rico 7-5, 6-2, while Schmiedlova advanced with a comeback 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win against Argentine qualifier Maria Irigoyen.
Dodig upsets Haider-Maurer
In Istanbul, Ivan Dodig of Croatia had nine aces as he beat fifth-seeded Andreas Haider-Maurer of Austria 7-5, 6-3 to reach second round of the inaugural Istanbul Open Tuesday.
In other matches, sixth-seeded Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin beat countryman Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-3, 6-4; and No. 8 Diego Schwartzman of Argentina broke qualifier Blaz Kavcic's serve seven times in a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Finland's Jarkko Nieminen advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Turkey's Marsel Ilhan.
Kyrgios moves up
In Estoril, seventh-seeded Nick Kyrgios outlasted Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) in two hours, 14 minutes in the first round of the Estoril Open Tuesday.
Nicolas Almagro of Spain ousted Stephane Robert 6-3, 7-6 (4) to earn a meeting with fourth-seeded Leonardo Mayer.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who won the Bucharest title on Sunday, eased to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Roberto Carballes Baena. He will play second-seeded Kevin Anderson. — Agencies
