LONDON — Fernandinho volleyed in a dramatic 89th-minute winner as Manchester City edged FA Cup finalists Aston Villa 3-2 on Saturday to reclaim second place in the Premier League table. Sergio Aguero put City ahead in the third minute and Aleksandar Kolarov extended the host's lead with a 66th-minute free-kick. Villa hit back through Tom Cleverley and Carlos Sanchez only for Fernandinho to claim victory with a back-post finish from Kolarov's left-wing corner. The win left Manuel Pellegrini's side nine points below leader Chelsea, having played two games more, and above Arsenal and Manchester United. Earlier, Leicester City climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time since November with a battling 1-0 win at bottom club Burnley. Defeat plunged Burnley deeper into the relegation mire, leaving them five points from safety on 26 points with four games remaining. Queens Park Rangers remained in 19th with 27 points after a 0-0 home draw against West Ham United. Sunderland fell into the bottom three after a 1-1 draw at Stoke City. Hull City, in 16th, secured a 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace but remained only one point from safety and Newcastle United lost 3-2 at home to Swansea City, its seventh straight league defeat. Sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur fought back to draw 2-2 with Southampton. Liverpool remained fifth after a 0-0 draw at West Bromwich Albion as Steven Gerrard made his 500th Premier League appearance for the visitors in his final season in England. Watford promoted Watford clinched promotion to the Premier League in dramatic fashion as their rivals slipped up in the final seconds Saturday. Slavisa Jokanovic's side had moved to the brink of reaching the top-flight with a 2-0 win at Brighton earlier in the day, yet it seemed like the Championship leaders would be made to wait for promotion by the results of the chasing pack. But fourth placed Norwich conceded an equalizer in a 1-1 draw at Rotherham and third placed Middlesbrough slumped to a 4-3 defeat at Fulham after conceding a last-minute goal. That was enough to seal Watford's return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence with one match remaining and they will be crowned Championship winner if second placed Bournemouth lose to Bolton Monday. Messi, Neymar score for Barca Lionel Messi helped set up Neymar's opener before scoring a goal of his own to lead 10-man Barcelona to a 2-0 win at Espanyol Saturday, provisionally increasing its lead of the Spanish league. Luis Suarez played a part in both goals against Barcelona's cross-town rival. Messi's incisive pass started a move that Neymar finished off in the 17th minute after Suarez had coolly let the ball run between his legs. Suarez then crossed for Messi to double the visitors' advantage in the 25th. Barcelona lost left back Jordi Alba to back-to-back bookings in the 54th after he continued to protest. Barcelona leads the league by five points. Atletico Madrid strengthened its hold on thrid place with a 3-0 win over Elche at the Vicente Calderon. Athletic Bilbao midfielder Benat Etxebarria scored with a deflected shot to secure a 1-0 win at last-place Cordoba Friday. Hamburg grabs a lifeline Pierre-Michel Lasogga scored twice as Hamburger SV boosted its chances of avoiding Bundesliga relegation with a 3-2 win over Augsburg Saturday. Ivica Olic scored Hamburg's first goal in seven games in the 11th minute and Lasogga made it 2-0 eight minutes later, only for Raul Bobadilla to pull one back six minutes after that. Tobias Werner equalized in the 69th, but Lasogga answered two minutes later with a fierce effort to the roof of the net for Hamburg's first win in 10 games. Hamburg climbed off the bottom to the relegation playoff place, one point above Stuttgart, which drew 2-2 at home with Freiburg, and one below Hannover, which lost 2-1 at home to Hoffenheim. Borussia Dortmund defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at home and Bayer Leverkusen drew 1-1 at Cologne. PSG moves 3 clear at top Winger Ezequiel Lavezzi grabbed a hat trick and striker Edinson Cavani scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain bounced back from its lackluster performance against Barcelona by thrashing Lille 6-1 to move three points ahead of Lyon at the top of the French league Saturday. Jordan Ayew scored twice to punish his former club as Lorient won 5-3 away to Marseille in a frantic match Friday — condemning the home side to a fourth straight defeat and dealing a big blow to its Champions League aspirations. — Agencies
