Ayman Al-Sahli Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — A Frankfurt-bound Saudi Arabian Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Cairo International Airport on Friday after developing an engine problem. Maj. Gen. Ayman Abdul Fattah, a senior official at the Cairo airport, said the pilot of Saudia flight SV167 requested emergency landing after noticing fuel leakage from one of the engines while flying over Egypt. Accordingly, the aircraft was granted permission for landing and all emergency support units, including ambulances and the fire service, were on hand, he said, adding that the plane landed safely. All 103 passengers on board were evacuated after technical staff found the repair of the engine would take time, Abdul Fattah said. Abdurahman Al-Fahd, assistant director general of Saudia for public relations, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that there was a mild problem in the reading in one of the engine meters. “Though the plane could continue its flight, the pilot opted for emergency landing as part of the airline's policy of maximum safety for its passengers. A Saudia aircraft left for Cairo from Jeddah later Friday to take the stranded passengers to Frankfurt on Saturday,” he added.
