RIYADH — The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Monday welcomed the decision of Yemeni President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi to appoint Khaled Mahfouz Bahah as vice president. Bahah was sworn in as vice president on Monday at the Yemen Embassy in Riyadh. He retains the post of prime minister. Several Yemeni ministers, officials and political leaders attended the ceremony. The GCC said Bahah's appointment was an important step toward helping Hadi's efforts to “restore security and stability in Yemen.” GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani said the GCC will continue to support all efforts to push for a political solution in Yemen. Bahah studied administration and finance in his home country as well as India. He held the post of oil minister between 2006 and 2008, before serving as ambassador to Canada until 2014.
