KOLKATA — Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered a three-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with just six balls to spare in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 here Saturday. Chris Gayle was the destroyer-in-chief with a brilliant knock of 96. AB de Villiers and Gayle gave the innings impetus with some mighty blows. De Villiers smashed 28 runs off 13 balls but then lost his wicket to KC Cariappa. However, Gayle stole it away from KKR in the end. Gayle got run out for 96 off 56 balls toward the end but by then the damage was done with RCB needing just 7 off 10 balls. Earlier the Kolkata Knight Riders scored 178 on back of performances from skipper Gautam Gambhir and Andre Russell. Gambhir was again the star performer with 58. After Brendon McCullum's century and MS Dhoni's quickfire fifty lit up Chepauk in the first innings, the CSK bowlers — led by Ashwin — put a strangle hold on the SRH batsmen.
