Study: 30% of Saudis plan to get nose jobs
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 04 - 2015

Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — A study conducted by King Saud University medical students revealed that 30 percent of Saudis plan to undergo rhinoplasty and the majority of them are women, Al-Hayat Arabic daily reported.
Plastic surgeon and supervising professor of the study Dr. Amani Obaid said although the majority of Saudis who get nose jobs are women, there has been a 20 percent increase in men undergoing plastic surgery.
“A nose job is the third most popular plastic surgery procedure done in the Kingdom. It is also the fifth most popular plastic surgery procedure in the world according to the 2010 statistics of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS),” said Dr. Obaid.
She added the majority of Saudis who get a nose job are between 18 and 30 years of age.
“There have only been a few people over 40 getting nose jobs. Most Saudis prefer to straighten their nose, which is the opposite of where the current international trend is heading. The ISAPS stated the majority desire a European nose but Saudis find them unsuitable with their Arab features,” said Dr. Obaid.
She also said 70 percent of Saudis planning to undergo rhinoplasty are unaware of the ramifications of such a surgery.
“The reasons to get a nose job vary between health and beautification reasons. Health reasons include difficulties breathing or fractures due to accidents. However, beauty remains a priority for many of the Saudis opting to go under the knife,” she added.
