JAZAN — Super Asia thrashed Al-Ahmad Cricket Club by 87 runs to clinch the inaugural JPCL (Jazan Premier Cricket League) T20 Championship title here.
The championship received an overwhelming support and turned out to be a great success story as officials, players and volunteers worked tirelessly to shape up this tournament.
Settling in an entertaining contest, Super Asia smacked sixes in the opening over. The first wicket partnership of 115 runs between openers Khawar Abbasi (64 — 10x4s, 2x6s) and Imran Qaiser (33) provided a solid foundation to post a mammoth total of 224 in 20 overs. Later Basit Ghouri added a quick-fire 70 (7x4s, 3x6s) with Amjad Shareef hammering 33 off 14 balls. Shahbaz Afirdi clipped the top of the Khawar Abbasi's off stump in the 10th over, while Rehan eradicated the firm Imran.
Super Asia tightened its grip on the game when its bowlers kept Al-Ahmad batsmen quiet. Amjad Shareef was almost unplayable. He snatched 4 for 11, leaving Al-Ahmad wobbling at 25-4. All-rounder Yousaf then played some classy strokes to score 70. Wickets, however, tumbled at the other end and Al-Ahmad lost the match by 87 runs. The General Manager of Jazan Municipality, Engr Aamir Muhammad Rafeh Al-Shehri, graced the occasion and distributed the prizes along with other honorable guests Zahid Sherwani and Malik Nadeem Sikandar.
