RIYADH — The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) plans to update its safety policy regarding crewmembers in European airlines' cockpits after the deliberate downing of Germanwings flight 4U 9525. The new policy recommends that neither the pilot nor co-pilot be left alone in the cockpit at any time. In the event either one of them needs to leave the cockpit, they must summon a flight attendant to sit in the additional seat in the cockpit. The Saudi Arabian Airlines Safety and Quality General Manager Assistant Capt. Mohammad Bin Abdulrahman Al-Shihry said Saudia has been implementing such a safety policy for the past 10 years. “EASA's new regulations have been implemented and followed for 10 years. We consider the new regulations basic safety procedures. We implement strict safety procedures to ensure the safety of our passengers, airplanes and operational staff,” said Al-Shihry.
