RIYADH – As part of Marriott International's “Spirit to Serve”, Marriott Hotels in Riyadh, together with Marriott properties worldwide, will participate in the annual Earth Hour celebration. Earth Hour is an annual international event organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), held on the third Saturday of March that asks households and businesses to turn off or dim their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour. It is a time for people around the world to raise awareness and send a message to their leaders that they care about tackling climate change and protecting the world's natural resources. It has inspired hundreds of millions of participants in more than 7,000 cities and towns in over 162 countries and territories. The Marriott Hotels in Riyadh will take part in this event as a kick-off to Environmental Awareness Month. Marriott International designates April as "Environmental Awareness Month" to communicate and celebrate the company's commitment to environmentally responsible operations, raise awareness of environmental issues and involve associates in environmental activities. Each hotel is turning off non-essential lighting as well as dimming the lights in public areas, restaurants, and exterior spaces. Guests will also be encouraged to reuse their towels and linens. Each guestroom will be given a nicely scented candle for temporary lighting as an option during the activity. The Riyadh Marriott hotels are encouraging their associates to support Earth Hour by participating in “green team” activities, as well as embracing the overall positive intent of Earth Hour. — SG
