He became the country's first prime minister after Singapore's independence in 1965 and will be remembered as the nation's founding father. Lee Kuan Yew is credited with transforming the port city of Singapore and the tiny former British colony into a global financial powerhouse. His devotion and dedication to the cause of the people are exemplary. With his demise, the world has lost a great visionary who took his tiny country to greater heights and who will be remembered as a true giant of history. Today, the world is short of great statesmen.
