Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Shoura Council on Tuesday rejected a proposal to increase work hours at government offices by one hour. The majority of members voted against the proposal to amend the Civil Service Law by adding one article to it, according to Yahya Al-Samaan, assistant president of the Council. The session was chaired by President Sheikh Abdullah Al-Asheikh, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The Council turned down the proposal, presented by members Muhammad Al-Naji and Ata Al-Subaiti, after listening to a report presented by the committee for administration and human resources as well as opinions of members. Taking part in the deliberations, some members argued that an increase in work hour also necessitates an increase in the number of staffers at some government institutions like schools. They also called for a hike in the salary of employees if work hour is increased. Some members stressed the need to improve the work efficiency of employees rather than increasing work hours.
