RIYADH — The Ministry of Health has reported two new infections of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), a local newspaper reported on Monday. It said the two expatriates in their 50s contracted the infections and they are now being treated in government hospitals in Riyadh and Najran. The ministry said since the virus was first discovered in the Kingdom in September 2012, it has infected a total of 961 people of whom 418 have died. According to the ministry, about 19 coronavirus patients are still being treated in government hospitals in various regions while two are being quarantined at their homes. The ministry said it is continuing its awareness drive against the virus which it recently launched on its official website and through social media networks. The ministry is particularly focusing its field awareness campaigns in markets, shopping centers, malls and public parks during the current school mid-year vacation. — SG
