Hassan Cheruppa Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — A total of 760 children have been picked for admission to the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) for the academic year 2015-16. The allotment to the lower kindergarten (LKG) section was made through a draw held in the presence of school officials and parents at the school's boys section auditorium in Rehab District on Saturday. This year the school received about 2,000 applications for enrollment in LKG alone. In addition, nearly 6,000 other students sought admission to classes UKG through VIII. Waiting lists for all classes have been prepared, also on the basis of a draw. The draw started at 9 a.m. in the presence of the Head of Chancery and School Observer Mohammed Raghib Qureshi, Chairman of School Managing Committee Mohamed Abdul Raziq, members of Managing Committee, Principal Syed Masood Ahmed and other school officials. As per school policy, 50 percent of the seats were reserved for siblings of children currently studying in the school. Seats likely to fall vacant in other classes through withdrawals before the start of the new school year in April will be filled from the waiting lists based on criteria already uploaded on the school's website. There are 120 students on the waiting list for UKG admission while waiting lists for classes I to VIII have 60 students each. There is also a waiting list of 150 children for LKG. School officials said 492 children selected for admission to LKG will be enrolled in the morning shift while the remaining 268 children will study in the afternoon shift. The school authorities introduced the draw system a few years ago to ensure transparency in the admission process in view of the high demand and the limited number of seats available. Top school officials previously told Saudi Gazette that they were trying to find suitable buildings to accommodate more students before closing the admission procedure for the next academic year. The school has nearly 13,000 male and female students on its rolls.
