Mansour Al-Shahri Okaz/Saudi Gazette RIYADH — The Special Criminal Court in Riyadh on Tuesday sentenced two members of a terrorist cell to death and 25 others to varying jail terms. They belonged to a 36-member terrorist cell whose members were accused of various crimes. The three-member jury awarded death to defendants number five and seven. The charges against them included firing at security officials, throwing bombs at them, plotting to hijack plane to carry out suicide mission, going to Afghanistan to join Al-Qaeda and take part in fighting, receiving arms training, terror funding, escaping from jail together with other terrorists, encouraging people to join Al-Qaeda, making bombs to attack security officials, and illegal possession of weapons. The court awarded jail terms ranging between two-and-a-half years and 25 years to other suspects and a similar term of travel ban. The court has acquitted nine terror suspects for want of evidence. On Monday, the Special Criminal Court sentenced 17 terror suspects to jail terms. The convicts belonged to two terror groups, and they included a terrorist who plotted to assassinate the emir of Makkah. The court gave 23 years in prison to defendant number four who was convicted of several crimes. Another terror suspect was awarded 20 years in jail and a travel ban was imposed on him.
