Where are we heading?

I OFTEN question with all bitterness what the faults in our society are? What has gone wrong? Is it the education methods? The family? The adverse influence of friends and close relatives? Or does the fault lie in the very culture and identity of society itself?
It is a known fact in psychology that most people make their first impression about others in a minute or two. This is demonstrated by the short video clips featuring the disturbing behavior of our people that we market on the Internet to the entire world and contribute to building a distorted image about our country and people.
Now and then the social media shows crazy behavior by our youth. Among others, this includes driving a car on two wheels, joy riding after school hours and jeopardizing the lives of the onlookers, the burning of animals alive and other weird conduct.
The examples of such attitudes are plenty. The unusual behavior of some of our young people has made us the laughing stock of the world.
This shocking behavior does not represent the young people alone but will mar our entire society. It helps shape a distorted image of our country and people in the minds of other people in the world.
We are living in a whirlpool that has started but will see no end in the near future. The concerned authorities are watching this bad behavior but are not doing anything to stop them. No one is happy about the sickening behavior of the youth on YouTube, Twitter and other social media but nothing is being done to curb them.
What is the justification behind putting these weird practices that will damage the image of our society on social media?
Entire sectors of society are to be blamed for these actions. Society should not only reject this behavior but do something about it. They should at least not help encourage further bad behavior by forwarding recordings of such incidents to others. This is the least society can do.
The lives of some young men and women have become very cheap for them. They keep endangering their lives with their irresponsible behavior in complete disregard for their own safety and that of their family, wives, children, friends and relatives.
It is true that examples of this mad behavior are prevalent in all countries of the world but in our country it has crossed all levels of madness.
Why do we not use social media to support some of our causes instead of committing acts that will harm them? Why can we not give the world a bright picture of our religion, country and people?
Why are we keen on presenting to the world our ugly face instead of the beautiful one?
We need to stop and think. We need to reactivate the role of the family, the home, education at all levels and the religious forums to put an end to this unacceptable behavior.
We need to be open and transparent in our rejection of the bad practices that will harm the image of our country and its people. We should not allow the young people who are negligent with their lives to tarnish our entire society.
We need to draft deterrent laws that will stop the reckless young men and women from killing themselves and others. We have to make punishments that will put them right in their place.
Above all, we need to redirect the energies and potentials of our young men and women toward actions that will better serve the country.
Once upon a time we were among the leading countries of the world. Why can't we regain this position?
