The Ministry of Transport on Saturday rejected a Board of Grievances verdict in Jeddah to compensate 21 “affected” parties for appropriating parts of their lands for the two projects of Jeddah-Leeth-Qounfodah Road and Leeth-Taif Road. The ministry has decided to appeal the verdict. The Board of Grievances verdict was based on the premise that it was necessary to apply the regulations of the Real Estate Expropriation for Public Interest and Temporarily Seizure system. The Ministry of Transport refused compensation claims and said the project of a rural road from Gumaigha area to the area of Al-Ma'a Al-Har (hot water) was on the demand of residents who undertook that they would not demand compensation. The ministry added that the Council of Ministers decision No. 433 in 1978 stated that no compensation will be given for rural roads. However, the plaintiffs said the road in question was a main one connecting two centers. They also claimed that several people received compensation for their appropriated lands on the same road.
