AL-KHOBAR — Toastmasters regaled the audience with their oratory skills at the Area 25 Annual Speech Contest held last week at the auditorium of Classic Restaurant in Al Khobar.
A total of 20 speakers from five toastmasters clubs participated in the speech contests in four categories, namely; International speech, Table Topics Speech, Humorous Speech and Evaluation Speech.
All of these participants had moved up to this level after winning contests conducted earlier by their respective clubs.
TM Dr. Forizuddin Ahmed won the first place in International Speech contest, whereas TM Safi H. Jannaty and Francis Hampong Fajardo won the second and third places respectively.
In Table Topics speech contests, which require the speakers to deliver impromptu speeches, TM Syed Mansour Shah was adjudged in the first place while TM Jayanthi Lakshman and TM Ravi Karkera won second and third places respectively.
In Humorous speeches, speakers after created a laughter riot with their humor. TM Mohammed Abdul Saleem stole the show and got the first prize while, TM Syed Rahmatullah Al Beez was adjudged.
In Speech Evaluation contest, TM Rahima Mustafa won first place, whereas TM Safi H. Jannaty and TM Afsana Rahman got second and third places respectively.
The first and second place winners in all of the four categories will participate in Division F Annual Conference which will be held on 20 March, 2015.
Victory by all of the participants from Urdu Toastmasters Club including two places won by TM Safi H. Jannaty ensured club's representation at the aforesaid Division F Annual Contests in all of the four categories, a rare feat by a language club.
In his welcome address, the Area Governor, an ace toastmaster and noted literary figure, TM Nayeem Javed briefed the audience about the achievements made by the clubs in the Area during the year.
One of the highlights of the event was spectacular performance by three children of Creative Gavel Club founded one year ago in the Area 25.
Its founder and counselor, DTM NC Mani highlighted the achievements made by the club and the audience witnessed the budding talents when three gaveliers showcased their oratory skills on stage.
The event was attended by Division F Governor, DTM Abdulgafoor, who delivered a motivational address and showed the ways in which the toastmasters can attain their goals in their toastmaster's journey and how it helps them in their career. The event was ably anchored by a senior toastmaster, Jyotirmoy Das while another ace toastmaster, Naseem Shehri was the chief judge.
Toastmasters International is an organization which provide a platform to enhance public speaking skills in a friendly atmosphere.
There are more than 292,000 members and over 14,350 toastmasters clubs in 122 countries.
After being declared a separate District, the popularity of Toastmasters is growing in Saudi Arabia.
