JAZAN — Three workers died when a petroleum tanker exploded in a gas station as it was unloading fuel. Two vehicles were also damaged and the electricity cut from the area. Jazan Civil Defense spokesman, Capt. Yahya Al-Qahtani, said the cause of the fire was static electricity discharge when the hose of the truck touched the metal edge of the storage cell at the station. The station was surrounded by houses but the Civil Defense was able to extinguish the fire before the blaze reached the properties. The Saudi Electricity Company said electricity was cut because the cables and the transmission tower near the station were burnt. The company will replace all damaged cables and restore electricity to the houses once it is granted approval to do so by the Civil Defense.
