KIEV — Pole vault great Sergei Bubka has made it official: He's running for president of the International Association of Athletics Federations. The Ukrainian announced his candidacy Wednesday, confirming what had been widely expected for months. Bubka will be up against British middle-distance great Sebastian Coe, who announced his bid in November. They are campaigning to succeed Senegal's Lamine Diack, who steps down in August after serving as president since 1999. Bubka has been an IAAF council member since 2001 and a vice president since 2007. Bubka set 35 world records and won six consecutive world titles during his career. He won gold at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. — AP
