AR'AR — An expert on climate conditions has warned the people in the Northern Borders region against a weather condition called “black ice.” “Black ice is a thin coating of glazed ice on a surface. It is extremely dangerous and causes many traffic accidents. Black ice is transparent which could deceive motorists and cause vehicles to careen out of control,” said Abdullah Al-Misnad. He added that people must create awareness about black ice. I suggest that all schools in the affected areas should start at 12 p.m. and public sector jobs should start at 10 a.m., he said. Meanwhile, roads were closed and warnings issued after moderate to heavy snowfall in some areas of the Northern Borders on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, Al-Sharq reported on Monday. Turaif had moderate snow, Ar'ar had light snow, and other areas of the Kingdom had rain in different intensities. Northern Borders Governor Prince Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Bin Musaed urged all government directorates to offer the best services to citizens and residents in the area to ensure their safety. In response, the Northern Borders Red Crescent, Civil Defense, Municipality, and Ministry of Health branch cooperated to handle emergencies. The Northern Borders Red Crescent advised people to be cautious on roads in such unusual weather conditions. The Red Crescent asked people to stay away from dams and flood areas. The Northern Borders Civil Defense emphasized the importance of following safety regulations. The Civil Defense urged people to stay away from valleys and slopes. The directorate has alerted its officers to be ready to meet any contingencies in the next few days.
