JEDDAH — The Royal Thai Consulate General in Jeddah, in cooperation with Thai community in western region of Saudi Arabia, organized the National Children's Day at the consulate's premises Saturday. Approximately 300 children living in Jeddah and Makkah had participated in this event. Thai Consul General Thanis Na Songkhla delivered his speech and declared the opening of the event.
"Children are the future of our nation and the young are in the hands of older people who should become good role models and know how to take care of them because children will automatically learn from older people and adopt their behavior," said Mr. Na Songkhla.
He also urged children as well as their parents to be aware for the ASEAN Economic Community, which will commence by the end of 2015 and will be a great opportunity for Thai people.
Thus,children should study hard to gain knowledge for their career in the future.
Several games and activities had been arranged for children to play and show off their talents. The children also exchanged their gifts with each other and enjoyed food and drink prepared by the consulate and Thai Community.
In Thailand, the National Children's Day is marked on the second Saturday of January of every year. It's Thailand's annual event to acknowledge the rights of children. Parliament opens for children to visit on this day. Children have the chance to sit on the prime minister's seat as well as to learn about Thai democracy. Other governmental units such as Royal Thai Air Force and Royal Thai Army are also open for children's visit.
The 2015 Children's Day motto, given by the Prime Minister of Thailand is "With knowledge and morality comes a brighter future." — SG
