NEW YORK — Marcus Johansson and right-winger Eric Fehr scored two goals apiece as the Washington Capitals defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2 Wednesday.
The victory was the third in a row for the Capitals (21-11-7), while the Maple Leafs (21-17-3) continued their poor form with a third consecutive defeat.
The Maple Leafs were playing their first game under interim coach Peter Horachek following the firing of Randy Carlyle Tuesday.
Brooks Laich and right-winger Alex Ovechkin also scored for the Capitals and defenseman John Carlson picked up two assists.
Goaltender Braden Holtby stopped 30 shots in his 15th straight start between the Washington pipes.
Horachek, 54, served as head coach of the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage at the start of the 2013-14 season before being appointed interim head coach of the NHL's Florida Panthers with 66 games remaining in the regular season.
He went 26-36-4 with Florida and was fired after the regular season.
Bruins 3, Penguins 2 (OT)
Patrice Bergeron scored at 2:33 of overtime, his second goal of the game, to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Center Bergeron tipped left-winger Milan Lucic's shot from the center point and the play stood up under a review to see if the scorer's stick was a legal height off the ice.
It was the fourth game in a row Boston (20-15-6) played beyond regulation but the first of those four it won.
With the point, the Penguins (24-10-6) moved into sole possession of first place in the Metropolitan Division.
Tuukka Rask made 37 saves in the victory.
Rangers 4, Ducks 1
New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves, and the Rangers got goals from Derick Brassard, Rick Nash, Mats Zuccarello and Dominic Moore in a 4-1 win over Anaheim.
Back-up goaltender Ilya Brzygalov made 26 saves in a rare start for the Ducks (26-10-6), but was burned by two costly Anaheim giveaways in the defensive zone in the third period.
Anaheim swept New York in last season's two-game series, and the Ducks had not lost at home to the Rangers (22-11-4) since the 2008-09 season.
Red Wings 3, Flames 2
Henrik Zetterberg, skating in his 800th career NHL game, broke a 1-1 deadlock to help Detroit to a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames.
Zetterberg also had an assist to take his career points tally to 756. Justin Abdelkader's goal on the power play early in the third period stood as the winner for the Red Wings.
Riley Sheahan also scored, while back-up goalie Petr Mrazek made 28 saves, for the Wings (22-10-9), who have a strong hold on third spot in the Atlantic Division.
Netminder Jonas Hiller took the loss in his relief appearance for Calgary, who fell to 21-17-3. — Agencies
