Substitute Henri Camara lifted Wigan out of the relegation zone by scoring in a 1-0 victory over Everton on Monday. The Senegalese striker's 51st-minute goal six minutes after coming on ended Everton's five-game unbeaten run and took Wigan from 18th to 15th in the congested Premier League standings. Everton stayed seventh and has only three points more than the Latics. After Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland had made a one-handed save from Louis Saha, the home side created the better chances and Wilson Palacios headed a cross from Antonio Valencia over the bar in the 34th minute. Everton's American goalkeeper, Tim Howard, made two top quality saves just before halftime. Lee Cattermole dribbled through the Toffees' defense but Howard blocked his curling shot, and the American then made a reflex stop from Paul Scharner's header three meters out. But Howard was beaten when Valencia eluded Joleon Lescott and swung over a cross from the right and Camara, looking suspiciously offside, escaped his markers to tap the ball home. Tim Cahill had a close-range shot blocked off the line by a defender, and the Australia midfielder fired over the bar in injury time. In a League Championship match, Barnsley edged Burnley 3-2. Podolski wants to leave, Bayern says no Germany striker Lukas Podolski has told Bayern Munich he wants to leave the club during the January transfer window but coach Juergen Klinsmann said on Monday he had no intention of letting him go. “I've decided I'd like to leave Bayern in the winter,” Podolski told Bild newspaper. “I've told the club management I want to go.” Despite a poor scoring record at club level, Bayern has repeatedly said it would like Podolski to stay and fight for his place. “We want to go into the second half of the season with a minimum of four strikers, and one of those four is Podolski,” Klinsmann told reporters ahead of the Champions League game at home to Steaua Bucharest. The 23-year-old Podolski has not been able to hold down a place in the team since joining from Cologne for $12.59 million after winning the award for best young player at the 2006 World Cup. He scored four league goals in his first season, five the following season and has managed three so far this term. His form for Germany has remained excellent, however, and his record now stands at 31 goals in 60 matches. His chances of playing more regularly will not be helped by the arrival of US international striker Landon Donovan, who will join the club on a short-term loan deal from January. Klinsmann started Podolski in the national team but has usually left the Polish-born striker on the bench so far this season, preferring to start with Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose.
