DAMMAM — The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) has set up a human rights department to look into grievances made by members of the public against Haia members, Haia chief Abdullatif Al-Ashiekh said while launching an e-training program in Al-Khobar. “Anyone who has a complaint against a Haia member or believes he has been mistreated by the Haia should lodge his grievance at this department and we'll bring justice to them,” Al-Asheikh said. “Haia members are likely to make mistakes just like any other employee in a government agency because they are all humans and nobody is perfect. The relationship between the Haia and citizens is at its best and there is a great harmony because citizens believe in the efforts exerted by the Haia members. Within a year, members raided over 1,000 liquor distilleries that used sewage water and poisonous materials to make alcohol,” he added. Al-Ashikeh said the Haia wants to hire female members because it believes in the pivotal role women can play in raising public awareness about certain women's issues. “Female members won't act as officers but more as advisers to their fellow female citizens,” he said.
