I agree with the article "Power to the underpaid" by Mahmoud Ahmad (Nov. 17). Land price has increased by leaps and bounds over the past 10 years. And so are building rents. Business owners are profiting at all angles. But their hearts shrink when they think to pay the salary of their employers. Mohammed, Online response
I agree that the demand by the Indian government for minimum of SR1,500 pay for its construction workers is too low. Surprisingly, businessmen say that it will harm their projects. Companies in the private sector have always worked for their self-interests and are always concerned about their profits.
That is the reason why the Labor Ministry has to impose the Nitaqat system to protect Saudis. But nobody has bothered about the welfare of the expatriates. This is a small but welcome move by Indian government to protect its workers.
