Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — A group of young volunteers has been distributing iftar (fast-breaking) meals packed in eco-friendly bags to motorists at major crossroads in all areas of Jeddah since the start of Ramadan. Dubbed "Hand In Hand", the group started off as a massive expression of loyalty to Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah by way of the world's biggest hand printed panel in a most environment-friendly manner. "We proudly boast the Guinness Record for us and our country. In the process, we educated thousands of young people about their role in protecting the environment at a personal level and at the level of society at large. This was followed by practical application when children competed in cleaning of parks on the Corniche, thus raising environmental awareness amongst their parents as well," said one of the lead participants. "This time, we are tying our environmental effort to the charity of feeding the fasters." He said they were targeting the motorists especially because the fabric bag can serve as a temporary waste container to keep cars tidy. He said the bag can be reused over and over again and when the motorist finally discards it, it will dissolve in the earth without causing any pollution. He said the group's activities are part of a program for promoting the national initiative for environmental protection and sustainability. "Our aim is to make this effort the social responsibility of one and all. As Ramadan fast cleanses our body, we must remember that cleanliness covers not only our bodies but everything around us as well," he said.
