“Abdul Qadeer Khan and the peaceful use of nuclear energy” (June 18) is an informative article. After independence, both India and Pakistan spent huge sums of money on the development of their armies and the production of sophisticated weapons. However, this was done at the cost of economic development and both countries still have hunger and poverty. At the same time there are Asian countries which were once economically behind Pakistan, but which are now economic giants. There is corruption everywhere even in the field of nuclear research.
