Nadal swept past unseeded Frenchman Florent Serra 6-2, 6-4. Federer looked rustier in winning 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) against Swede Robin Soderling while Murray was little troubled by US hope Sam Querrey as he steamed through 6-2, 6-4 to book a meeting with Spaniard 15th seed Fernando Verdasco. Also advancing was US 11th seed James Blake who beat Italian Simone Bolelli 6-7 (8-10), 6-3, 6-4. Another winner was Argentine David Nalbandian, who beat German Nicolas Kiefer 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to secure a third meeting in less than a month with Juan Martin del Potro. Next up for Nadal is Frenchman Gael Monfils. Elsewhere, French tenth seed Gilles Simon moved on to a meeting with US world number six Andy Roddick by coming back from 0-4 down in the second set to see off Russian Igor Andreev 6-3, 7-5. Russian sixth seed and 2006 champion Nikolay Davydenko ousted 2005 runner-up Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 and next plays 2005 champion Tomas Berdych. Petrova in 2nd round Top-seeded Nadia Petrova breezed past Maria Mokh 6-1, 6-2 on Tuesday in the Bell Challenge. Petrova will face Varvara Lepchenko who beat Rossana De Los Rios 6-1, 6-3. Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand fell to Frenchwoman Severine Bremond 6-2, 7-6. Bremond will face the winner of the Angela Haynes-Stephanie Dubois match. Aleksandra Wozniak beat Edina Gallovits 6-4, 6-3 and will next play Carly Gullickson, who beat Romania's Ioana Raluca Olaru 7-6, 6-1. In other first-round matches: No. 7 Olga Govortsova beat Vania King 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, Galina Voskoboeva upset No. 8 Sofia Arvidsson 6-3 6-2; Melinda Czink defeated No. 9 Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-2, 5-7, 6-3; and Nathalie Dechy dumped Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-3, 6-1.
