Donaldson powers Athletics to victory

ANAHEIM — Third baseman Josh Donaldson's RBI double off right-hander Yoslan Herrera in the top of the 11th inning lifted the Oakland A's to a 10-9 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
The teams combined for 28 hits Tuesday in a game where no lead was safe. The Angels led 6-3 after the fourth inning before the A's (10-4) rallied for a 9-6 lead in the eighth.
Angels (6-8) center fielder Mike Trout's two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at 9, sending it into extra innings.
White Sox 2, Red Sox 1: Alexei Ramirez scored the game-winning run for the second straight game, racing home from second on a throwing error by shortstop Xander Bogaerts to lead Chicago past the Boston Red Sox.
Ramirez ended the game with his score in the ninth after also delivering a walk-off home run Sunday as the White Sox beat Cleveland.
Ramirez has a 14-game hitting streak for the White Sox (8-6) who have won three straight.
The defending world champion Red Sox (5-9) have now lost three straight.
Rangers 5, Mariners 0: Robbie Ross Jr. earned his first win as a starter by throwing 7 2/3 scoreless innings to beat Seattle.
Ross, who spent his first two major league seasons in the bullpen, allowed five hits and no walks to the Mariners (7-6).
Blue Jays 9, Twins 3: Toronto scored five runs in the sixth inning to power them to a victory over Minnesota.
Royals 4, Astros 2: Rookie right-hander Yordano Ventura worked seven strong innings and posted his first career victory in the Kansas City Royals' win over the Houston Astros.
National League
Cardinals 6, Brewers 1: Shelby Miller struck out seven in six effective innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Jhonny Peralta and Matt Holliday homered for the Cardinals (9-5) who also got two RBIs from Mark Ellis. Brewers starter Marco Estrada (1-1) gave up three runs on five hits as Milwaukee (10-4) lost a second straight game after winning nine straight.
Mets 9, Diamondbacks 0: Mets center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis celebrated his return to the major leagues with three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs in New York's victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.Nieuwenhuis singled home a run for the Mets (7-7) in their three-run first inning, and he hit a two-run home run in a six-run third after being recalled from the minor league earlier in the day. Mets right-hander Jenrry Mejia (2-0) gave up two singles in five scoreless innings before leaving when he a blister toe on the middle finger of his pitching hand.
Marlins 11, Nationals 2: Giancarlo Stanton hit a massive three-run homer, and the Miami Marlins defeated the Washington Nationals to snap an eight-game losing streak.
Rockies 3, Padres 2: Wilin Rosario broke up a 2-2 tie with a bases-loaded, two-out infield single in the fifth and the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Diego Padres.
Pirates 8, Reds 7 (1st game): The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds completed their suspended game after it was halted Monday because of rain after six innings with the game tied 7-7.
Reds 7, Pirates 5 (2nd game): Todd Frazier and starting pitcher Mike Leake hit two-run homers, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. — Agencies
