TORONTO — Dave Bolland and David Clarkson scored early in the third period and the Toronto Maple Leafs snapped an eight-game losing streak by holding on for a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames Tuesday. Jay McClement also scored for the Maple Leafs (37-32-8), who moved within a point of Columbus for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Matt Stajan and defenseman Kris Russell scored for the Flames (31-38-7), who lost their second game in a row. Blues 1, Flyers 0 (SO): T.J. Oshie and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored in a shootout to give St Louis a win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Goalie Ryan Miller stopped 31 shots in regulation and overtime before turning back shots by Vincent Lecavalier and Claude Giroux in the shootout. The victory also allowed the Blues (51-17-7) to move back within one point of the idle Boston Bruins in the race for the President's Trophy with 109 points. Lightning 3, Canadiens 1: Rookie Tyler Johnson's fifth short-handed goal of the season sent the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens and into the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Johnson put Tampa Bay 2-1 in front at 12:41 of the third period. His 23rd goal overall matched the franchise mark for a rookie, set by Steven Stamkos in 2008-09. The win, coupled with losses by the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals, assured Tampa Bay (42-25-9) just their third playoff appearance since 2007. Stars 5, Capitals 0: Dustin Jeffrey had his first two-goal game with the Stars, while Tyler Seguin, Ray Whitney and Ryan Garbutt all added scores leading the Stars to a win over the Washington Capitals. Goaltender Kari Lehtonen turned aside all 35 shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season. Avalanche 3, Blue Jackets 2 (OT): Colorado Avalanche left winger Gabriel Landeskog scored two goals, the second with 32.2 seconds remaining in overtime, to lead the Avs to a win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Brad Malone also scored for the Avalanche (48-21-6), who trailed 2-0 heading into the third period. Hurricanes 4, Penguins 1: Elias Lindholm scored two second-period goals to break a tie and lift the Carolina Hurricanes to a victory over the Penguins, preventing Pittsburgh from clinching the Metropolitan Division title. By beating Pittsburgh (48-23-5), the Hurricanes (33-32-11) kept their flickering playoff hopes alive and trail Columbus by seven points for the second of two Eastern Conference wild card berths. Sabres 3, Devils 2 (SO): Much-maligned Buffalo left winger Ville Leino scored in a shootout, lifting the Sabres to victory over the Devils, who fell to 0-11 in shootouts this season. Leino, who has not scored a regulation goal in more than a calendar year, beat goalie Cory Schneider in the ninth round of the shootout and Tyler Ennis had two goals as Buffalo (21-45-9) notched just their second win in 13 starts. Other results: Islanders 4, Panthers 2; Sharks 5, Oilers 4; Jets 2, Coyotes 1 (SO); Rangers 3, Canucks 1. — Reuters
