CHITTAGONG — South Africa and Sri Lanka captains Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Chandimal have been suspended for one match and their teammates fined after their sides maintained slow over-rates in the World Twenty20. Du Plessis will miss the match against England Saturday, and Chandimal will miss Sri Lanka's final group match against New Zealand Monday. The International Cricket Council announced the decisions Friday, a day after their matches. Both sides were deemed to be one over too slow in South Africa against the Netherlands, and Sri Lanka against England. Du Plessis pleaded guilty and accepted the sanctions, but Chandimal said he was not guilty. The charge was upheld at a hearing Friday. The match bans came about because these were both captains' second minor over-rate offenses within 12 months in the same format. South Africa was fined for being two overs short against New Zealand Monday in the World T20, and Sri Lanka was short by one over against New Zealand in Pallekele on Nov. 21. — AP
