With regard to the article “A restaurant manned by Saudi women” (Mar. 10), I can only ask: Are you kidding? Can you please explain why Saudi women are different from women anywhere else in the world? Why is it necessary to “prove” to society they can prepare and serve food? If this article was published in any newspaper in any other country in the world, the reader would be astonished that there was a question about the ability of a woman too cook well. Judith, Online response II. Judith, are you kidding? The reason Saudi women have to “prove” they can do it is that most people's impression of them is that they are oppressed women who do not do anything but serve their husband or family members. This may show others around the world that their lives are very much the same as other women. They can own a business including but not limited to cooking for others outside of their families. Good for them! Jayla, Online response III. In response to Judith, “Are you kidding?”, I see where you are coming from. However, when the majority of Saudi households have their food prepared by maids, one is left to wonder how well Saudi women really can cook. I would rather taste Saudi food prepared by local people. That way you get to taste the food the way it is really meant to taste. Donald D., Online response
