JEDDAH — “The Tree for Generations” activity took place under the aegis of the Jeddah Municipality and in cooperation with Al-Nabta Al Ola, non-profit organization dedicated to design and produce environmental awareness educational programs, on Friday.
Sawsan Alim, founder and president of Al-Nabta expressed her enthusiasm to be part of this activity in cooperation with Jeddah Municipality and said: “We are here today to encourage the new generation to plant trees and let them know the value of plants and planting. We also provide some other activities like Mural where children are able to mimic reality by coloring trees and removing the attached waste. By this we teach children to leave the gardens clean as they are always the first to come to stay and play in.”
Friends of Gardens Association participated through volunteer team. The team initiated the distribution of agricultural seedlings to visitors.
Muhammad Ismail said: “We are here today to plant seedlings and we already planted 20 seedlings, one for each member of the group.”
Hussain Muhammad said: “We are always there to help the society. We work for the benefit of some public parks in Jeddah like Amira Tarablsy and Faisal Zahid parks. We work also in other volunteering fields. Our recent activity was in (Kuna Keda) festival in old Jeddah.”
Visitors also expressed their joy of the event. Sarah Ali, mother of four children, expressed her admiration of the event that teaches children the value of greenery and trees. She also commented that the weather is so nice and that encourages everyone to join. Kids too enjoyed touching the soil.
Nour, a young girl who planted many seeds, said: “I liked planting very much. It is very nice to touch the soil and plant the seedlings.”
Zain, another child, said: “I know that the more trees are planted, more the oxygen for people to breathe. I'm happy in contributing to it.”
Within the framework of awareness and education, Jeddah Municipality has launched an initiative of distributing 25,000 seedlings during “Tree Week”. The ‘Tree Week' aims to instill love of trees and the importance of the environmental, social and aesthetics in the society and raise awareness among future generations on the importance of preserving trees and plants and green spaces.
