With regard to the article “‘Misyar' marriage... for the cowardly” (Mar. 7), a Muslim man is allowed by Shariah to have a maximum of four wives at a time. It is because of the influence of the Western non-Muslim world that some Muslim wives no longer accept sharing their husbands with another wife, which is actually un-Islamic in that the wife has become a hindrance to the Shariah rights of her husband. This may as a consequence force him to become involved in a ‘misyar' marriage. ‘Misyar' marriages are completely un-Islamic since Islam guarantees the rights of a woman as a wife, be it be the first wife or the second. One of the basic requirements of Islam is that marriage be announced in public with four witnesses and a dowry given to the wife. When you violate this, how can you expect Allah's blessing? Stop misusing Islam for your personal pleasure! “Misyar” has given a bad name to Islam. Whoever considered it Islamic in the first place?
