MAKKAH — A family called the police to stop their teacher daughter from marrying a man who they did not think was suitable for her. The teacher's brother told Makkah daily that their father notified Ajyad police station that his sister had gone missing for three days and did not even go to the school where she teaches. He explained his father was against the marriage because the suitor was a convict who was recently released from prison, where he was serving a sentence for moral crimes. The brother added his father believed the man “bewitched” his daughter into wanting to marry him. Makkah Police spokesman Lt. Col. Aati Al-Qurashi said police conducted their own investigation, verified the information and detained the teacher, referring her case to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIP). The head of Makkah Educational Directorate, Hamid Al-Selemi, said he is personally following the case, noting such behavior was not expected of a teacher.
