UNIONDALE, New York — Jaromir Jagr became the seventh player to score 700 NHL goals, reaching the mark as the New Jersey Devils routed the New York Islanders 6-1 Saturday. The New Jersey forward moved into this elite group when he netted his 19th goal of the season. The Islanders have been Jagr's favorite target in his 20 NHL seasons. He has 61 goals and 88 assists in 101 career games. “Is it that many? I love this team,” Jagr said. “It's my favorite team. That's a lot of goals. It's almost 10 percent.” Jagr stickhandled from the right wing boards into the slot and then slid a shot along the ice that eluded New York goalie Evgeni Nabokov at 3:31 of the second to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. The 42-year-old Jagr was surrounded by his teammates on the ice with him and skated across the front of the bench, patting gloves along the way. He received a nice ovation from the crowd when his milestone was announced. “Well they knew I scored 61 goals against them,” he said. The Czech Republic Olympian is only eight goals behind Mike Gartner, who is sixth on the NHL career list. Wayne Gretzky holds the record of 894. Jagr is seventh in career points with 1,740. By coincidence, Gretzky netted his 700th goal on Long Island on Jan. 3, 1991, and Marcel Dionne also reached the mark against the Islanders on Oct. 31, 1987. Dionne is fourth on the list with 731 goals. Jagr later set up Marek Zidlicky's power-play goal, his 1,040th assist, tying him with Dionne for ninth place in NHL history. Blackhawks 5, Penguins 1: Chicago captain and center Jonathan Toews scored two goals and goaltender Corey Crawford and the defense around him shone as the Blackhawks easily defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 in the NHL Stadium Series game at Soldier Field. Crawford stopped all but one of Pittsburgh's 32 shots as the game was played in a steady snow, with estimates of up to four inches falling during the contest. The win could prove costly to the Blackhawks, however, as right winger Marian Hossa suffered an upper-body injury late in the first period. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Chicago (36-12-14) while extending Pittsburgh's (40-16-4) own losing streak to three straight. Capitals 4, Bruins 2: Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals continued to march into playoff contention with a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins. Ovechkin scored two power-play goals, the second giving him 800 career points. He has 43 goals this season, eight of which have come in the past 10 games. He also has eight assists in that stretch. Right wingers Joel Ward and Eric Fehr also scored for the Caps in front of goaltender Braden Holtby, who made 36 saves. The Capitals (29-23-9) are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, a point out of the final playoff position. Flyers 4, Rangers 2: Right winger Wayne Simmonds scored the tie-breaking goal to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-2 win over the New York Rangers. Vincent Lecavalier, Sean Couturier and defenseman Luke Schenn also scored for the Flyers, who moved to within one point of the Rangers for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Chris Kreider and center Derick Brassard scored for the Rangers. Blue Jackets 6, Panthers 3: Six different Columbus Blue Jackets scored goals as they recorded a 6-3 win over the Florida Panthers. R.J. Umberger, Cam Atkinson and David Savard had power play goals while Artem Anisimov scored the go-ahead short-handed goal late in the second period for the Blue Jackets. Nick Foligno and Matt Calvert scored empty-net goals in the final 1:01 for the Blue Jackets. The Panthers came back from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2, but appeared to run out of gas in the third period. Jets 3, Predators 1: Goaltender Ondrej Pavelec made 39 saves as the Winnipeg Jets won for the 11th time in 15 games under new coach Paul Maurice, defeating the Nashville Predators 3-1. Other results: Lightning 4, Stars 2; Kings 2, Hurricanes 1; Canadiens 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT); Flames 2, Oilers 1 (OT). — Agencies
