Saudi Gazette report JAZAN — At 145 km away from Jazan beach, Farasan Island remains to be the first choice for tourists who want to enjoy breath-taking scenery. Its serenity and fresh breeze has made the residents of nearby cities flock to it every weekend. Farasan Archipelago consists of 250 small islands running from north to south Jazan. Al-Hayat daily met one of the island's residents. Ali Yaqoub says Farasan has always been the favorite destination for tourists in and outside the Kingdom. Most visitors prefer to spend a great deal of their time on the golden sands of Farasan beaches while some prefer to fish, Yaqoub said. Yaqoub believes that one of the problems in Farasan is transportation. “There are only two ferries available to carry visitors to and fro Farasan. These are definitely not enough in light of the increasing number of tourists who flock to the island around the year,” Yaqoub said. More ferries should be made available to transport more visitors between the islands and back and forth to Jazan. Dr. Abdullah Al-Dabagh, geology professor in King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals, said the geological age of the beautiful Farasan ranges between 3-3.5 million years. In the world of geology, this age is not considered a long one, Dr. Al-Dabagh said.
