Haj, Umrah visitors blackmailed into paying exorbitant fees

The article "Getting pilgrim visas online is the dream of millions" (Jan. 17) is 100 percent correct. In South Africa, the Haj accredited agents demand approximately $100 for a so-called "free Umrah/Haj visa." Unfortunately, Hajis or Umrah visitors are being blackmailed into paying exorbitant fees and hotel rates by these unscrupulous agents. Haj or Umrah costs could be dramatically reduced if we were allowed to obtain our own visas and book hotels online. Being forced to book via agents makes the cost beyond the means of many people and leaves a bitter taste in everyone's mouth.
