With regard to the letter “Expats' savings are ‘halal'” (Jan. 16), it is not a good idea for Saudis to be concerned about the remittances of expat worker. Expats are only sending home the money that they have honestly earned. So what is the problem with that? An expat worker is earning his salary because he is providing his skills and services to the company where he works. But no one seems to be looking at how much profit these companies are earning because of these employees. Just targeting the savings of poor expats is so unfair! Ahmed, Online response II. Expatriates came to work in Saudi Arabia with the permission of the authorities. Of the Kingdom's 29 million population, one third is made up of expatriate workers. They are spending more than half of their earnings in the country, so these expats are major contributors to the growth of the economy of the country. I cannot understand why some people are so concerned when a portion of the earnings from the sweat, blood and toil of expats is remitted to their families at home? This is their legitimate right.
