The event, moderated by General Secretary of Humnawa Dr. Wardah Qureshi, commenced with recitation of a few verses from the Qur'an by Dr. Zaid Murtaza Malik. Incumbent president of “Humnawa” Bilqis Safder said the new team of ladies, elected in February this year, are focusing on constructive activities in the community under Anila's guidance. “Humnawa” surprised the guests when they invited the ambassador and his wife on stage to cut a mulch-tiered cake to mark their 27th wedding anniversary. Khan thanked “Humnawa” for hosting this memorable evening in his honor and lauded their charity works. As a token of appreciation for their contribution towards helping the needy, Khan donated SR15,000 toward their charity fund. He also asked everyone present to extend a helping hand to “Humnawa.” Talking about Pak-Saudi relations and the Nitaqat program, Khan said: “Saudi leadership has a soft corner for Pakistanis and we value that very much. I used all my powers, and even over-stepped some of them, when I helped my compatriots with their problems related to status correction. But when I look back I feel satisfied and proud that I was able to do the right thing.” Khan stated that by the grace of God, as a result of his efforts, 850,000 Pakistanis were able to document themselves and hence become legal. He also spoke about opening a special fund with the of the community to extend help to the poor and the needy. “This fund is now up and running and the needy are benefitting from it.” Prof. Maimoona Shaheen Ahmed offered prayers for the for the peace and prosperity of Pakistan. Tabassum Ali, a member of “Humnawa,” spoke at length on the success of “Humnawa” since its inception. Waqar Nasim Wamiq, a young and talented poet, presented his poetry quatrain in eulogy of Khan. Urdu writer Tasneem Amjad also presented her poetry highlighting the achievements of Khan. Cyma Azyz, a noted TV Presenter on Saudi English Channel 2, said that she was very impressed with the community services undertaken by Khan. The event also included some items from pop music, and a band led by Osama played some popular numbers. A memento shield was presented to Khan in appreciation of his outstanding services for the community by “Humnawa” ladies Bilqis Safder, Shahnaz Akhter, Dr. Wardah Qureshi, Imrana Humayun and Asiya Mehtab. Prizes were also presented to speakers. A raffle draw gave away dozens of prizes to the winners. The event concluded with a sumptuous dinner. — SG
