AL-QURAYYAT — The late Minister of Labor Dr. Ghazi Al-Gosaibi once stole the limelight when he donned the uniform of a waiter and carried out orders from the catering department's head at a famous restaurant in Jeddah. His gesture conveyed a strong message to Saudi youths that no job is demeaning and they should come forward to take up any profession by removing the stigma and negativity attached to such jobs, like that of a waiter. Al-Jouf University President Ismail Al-Bishri emulated Al-Gosaibi when he removed his academic cloak and wore the uniform of a waiter in Sakaka this week. Al-Bishri, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Al-Jouf Youth Council, joined hands with some Saudi youths who received orders from customers and served them food. Al-Bishri's act produced an electrifying impact on youths who participated in a program titled “Work is not a shame,” organized by the Youth Council in cooperation with Al-Jouf Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Badar Al-Moaiqel, secretary general of the council, and Hamdan Al-Samarain, president of the Chamber, were among the dignitaries attending the function. Saudi youths working at restaurants in Sakaka and Dawmat Al-Jandal and owners of their restaurants were also honored on the occasion. The program was organized as part of an awareness campaign for young Saudis that all professions must be respected and there won't be any feeling of shame while taking up any job considered menial.
