JEDDAH — It's almost the end of December, the last month of the year, and New Year is just around the corner.
Do you know people make New Year resolutions before the New Year?
It is like a promise that you make to yourself on the first day of New Year to start doing good things and stop or try to lessen all your bad habits.
It is about the changes you will bring in the New Year to make it a better year than before.
So, how was your year? Did you stick to your resolutions? There must some things you wish you had not done, or things that might have made you and parents proud.
If you did not make any resolutions last year, then do it now for next year.
Although everyone makes resolutions based on their needs, here are a few ideas which you can consider, and perhaps add it to your list.
Write them neatly on a chart paper, decorate it and hang it in your wall so that you remember your year-long goals.
Here are few healthy promises that you could make in order to have a very healthy and happy life.
You can start by promising to offer your prayers regularly and read the Qur'an daily even if it's one page only. It will make your days beautiful and successful.

* Minimize your junk food intake. Try to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits to stay healthy.
* Adopt a new and healthy habit of washing your hands after going to the bathroom and before eating.
* Cut down on cold drinks. Drink more water, milk and juices instead of soda drinks.
* You become lazy when you have to brush your teeth twice a day. Make a resolution that you will brush your teeth no matter how sleepy you are feeling.
* If you didn't get good grades last year, promise yourself that this year you will make your parents proud. Work hard on your studies and dedicate proper time for them.
* Promise yourself that you'll do the homework the same day you get it.
* Get involved in sports and more outdoor activities. Watching Televisions and playing consoles will weaken your eyesight.
* You can help your country by not throwing garbage on the streets. Promise yourself that you will not throw the chips wrapper on the street like last year and ask your friends to do the same. Keep your city clean.
* Don't waste water and electricity. They are our precious resources. Don't spend long hours in the bath playing with the shower, creating bubbles or just letting it continuously for fun.
* Switch off the lights, fan and AC when you leave the room.
* Break a bad habit of yours. For example: Correct your bad sitting posture or stop biting your nails among others.
* Last but not the least, be good. Make friends, respect your parents, teachers and elders. Help the old and poor.
