Badea Abu Al-Naja Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The International Islamic Relief Organization (IRO) has completed its campaign to fight blindness in Gombe, Nigeria. The IRO was successful in treating 1,000 patients, and have conducted many operations. During the last two days of the campaign, more than 3,000 patients were provided the necessary treatment, and doctors were working during morning and evening hours. One of the most unique cases was that of an eight-year-old child who was blind for years. She was examined by doctors, and they decided that she needed an operation in both her eyes. The operation was successful, and she regained her eyesight. The wife of the Nigerian Deputy President expressed her great gratitude for the IRO and hoped for bigger cooperation between IRO and Nigeria's organization for combating blindness. Gombe's governor has also praised the efforts of the doctors and nurses during the week-long campaign. Hundreds of Gombe residents have expressed their gratitude to the Kingdom for its continued efforts for the wellbeing of Muslims, and called that such campaigns should continue as there are many who could not benefit from it.
