JEDDAH — A senior police official said demographic information is now being used to track illegal residents. This comes at a time when illegal residents and beggars who were hiding at the start of the crackdown campaign have begun appearing in the streets of Jeddah again. Col. Badr Al-Aud, media and public relations manager of Makkah Police, said 600 illegal residents were detained in Makkah recently and a total of 7,923 illegals are currently held at Al-Shumaisy deportation center. Mohammad Ali, an illegal resident, said he and his compatriots completely disappeared from the streets during the post-amnesty campaign. He said they have begun practicing their work as if nothing had happened, adding that his neighborhood was not visited by security patrols during the campaign. – SG
