JEDDAH — Police have launched a crackdown against owners of beach buggies, horses and street peddlers on Jeddah's Corniche. More than 1,000 beggars, including 341 women and 312 children, were rounded up during the campaign. Col. Mesfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police, said officers concentrated on six locations on where the bikers and horse owners normally gather. The clampdown started after complaints from many families the danger posed by bikes and horses to visitors. They also complained about the large number of beggars pestering the public. Police also seized hundreds of motorbikes and horses.
